An adventure in the snow

Yeah!!! Damian and grandpa Ed got the opportunity to spend last Friday afternoon together and go play in the snow. A snowshoeing trip has been on the cards for a while but Damian is a busy lad and grandpa has been out of town. We took the opportunity of a half day of school for Damian and Friday off work for Ed, to shake the dust off the snowshoes. We took the short drive to Elbow Falls and hoped the snow was still good enough for our plans - it was perfect and we had great fun.
It didn't take Damian long to learn the basic techniques of walking on the flats and going up hill.
But take care not to stand on the tail of one snowshoe with the other snowshoe or (whooops!!!!) you will fall over. Damian is still smiling while flat on his back, proving that snow can be enjoyed. Getting back up onto two feet is a whole other learning but not too much of a problem for this fit young fella.
And the Spring thaw has started, so stay off the beaver pond - oops!!!! close but no cigar Damian. The water was not deep and the area of the snowshoes and Damian's quick reaction prevented him getting too wet. He did get a little water in his boots and damp gloves but the look of surprise on his face was worth a million dollars.
We initially though that this was some one's secret picnic spot - certainly a very quiet and picturesque location. But we figured it was part of a summer mountain bike trail and the picnic bench doubled as a makeshift bridge. Damian thought this area might be worth another visit during the summer months for one of our mountain bike days out.
After leaving the damp clothing and snowshoes at the car we took a walk to Elbow Falls. This is a very beautiful spot at any time of the year but especially so in the winter months. This day was no exception and concluded a great adventure. Stay tuned for more adventures with Damian and grandpa Ed.
